    Notes

    Sunrise and sunset are the moments the top edge of the sun meets a level horizon at sea level, allowing for the average bending of light by the air. Moonrise and moonset work the same way for the moon. The air on the day can move the real moment by a minute or more; hills, buildings and height move it further, and near the poles, where the sun meets the horizon at a shallow angle, by many minutes.

    Sun and moon altitudes include that bending. Directions are compass bearings from true north.
